Meknes Vollubilis Day Trip:

Your day excursion to 2,000 past years starts in the morning after breakfast at your hotel or Riad where you stay in Fes, across the wide Saiss Plain to the wonderful Roman ruins in Volubilis, the Volubilis of really ancient olive presses, monumental arches, incredible mosaics, mansions and Corinthian columns where you’ll feel a real sense of Roman lifestyle.

The site includes the Mansion containing the mosaic of the Hercules’ Labours, the Baths of Gallienus, Forum’s Baths with their fragmentary mosaics, the Orpheus’ House and its mosaic Dolphin and Orpheus Myth; you may see many mosaics only from the outside of the Cortege of Venus, then get in to see the Bacchus ‘ medallions , the Abduction of Hylas and Diana; the Gordian Palace with its pooled courtyards & bathhouse, the House of Nymphs, the House of the Seasons, the House of the Wild Beast, the House of Flavius Germanus, the Capitol & the House of Ephebus with its pictorial mosaics, the Knight’s House with an unfinished mosaic of Dionysus Discovering Ariadne Asleep, and finally the Triumphal Arch.

We leave Volubilis & drive alongside the outlying ridges of the hills in Zerhoun area to stop for a guided visit of the famous village of Moulay Idriss Zerhoune, the holiest Islamic town in Morocco, thousands of Moroccan faithful people come to moussem ( pilgrimage ) every August to pray in this land of this descendant of the Prophet Mohammed.
Above you in the elongated square, you will see the Zaouia with its green-tiled pyramids & two conical quarters, you will get the chance to stroll amidst the labyrinth of alleyways before leaving for the Imperial City of Moulay Ismail, Meknes City.

In the Imperial City of Meknes (UNESCO World Heritage Site), you will easily visit the most beautiful gateway in all of the Maghreb – the Bab Mansour. From here you will head to the Sehrij-Souani , well known for its underground channels that brought fresh water from the distant Middle Atlas Mountains; next to this strategic pool, the stables & the granary with its huge vaulted structures were built by the soldiers of Moulay Ismail.
Continue your visit to The Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail and el-Hedim Place; you will also get the opportunity to taste Moroccan food during your lunchtime before leaving Meknes in the afternoon.
